Nagatagata Nursing Station – ‘One of the cleanest in Fiji’
The CCOHSI Team recently stayed overnight at Nagatagata Nursing Station during a trip to Fiji’s interior villages where they conducted health promotion activities on wellness and ran Reproductive Health clinics. They also signed off on Community Development Projects (CDPs) that have commenced in four villages in the interior. Nagatagata Nursing Station is located in Fiji's rural interior, approximately 1.5 to 2 hours drive from the closest regional town of Tavua. Its catchment area includes 4 villages (Nagatagata Village, Buyabuya Village, Drala Village and Koro Village) and 4 settlements (Nakeito Settlement, Lutu Settlement, Vatutokotoko Settlement and Votualevu Settlement). The total population served in this large catchment area is approximately 544.
Staff Nurse Luke Nacuva Qeleca has worked at Nagatagata Nursing Station for many years, most recently since 2014 to present. He sees 5-6 patients a day in the health centre alongside performing outreach to other villages and settlements in the catchment area.
The Nagatagata Health Centre is kept to a high standard of cleanliness by Luke and health information and lastest catchment statistics are beautifully presented on the walls and notice board. Health information flyers are stacked neatly, available for patients’ perusal and all resources are clearly labeled. Professor Rajat, Co-Medical Director of Viseisei Sai Health Centre, stated it was one of the ‘cleanest Health Centres he has seen in Fiji or any where else’. He went on to say that we should all follow Luke’s example in modeling cleanliness and hygiene. The waiting area, the treatment room and the toilets were all beautifully clean.
